What is a natural shampoo?
A natural shampoo is also known as organic or green shampoo. All our shampoo bars can be labeled as natural shampoo, but what does that actually mean? A natural shampoo has 3 characteristics, which we will explain further.
Natural ingredients
First, for a natural shampoo, at least 50% of the ingredients must retain their original molecular structure. The more ingredients retain their structure, the more natural the shampoo!
Biodegradable
Another characteristic of a natural shampoo is that as many ingredients as possible are biodegradable. When a product is biodegradable, it means that substances whose molecules contain a chemical bond between carbon and hydrogen are broken down by the natural activity of microorganisms. At Shampoo Bars, we consider this very important. For example, the packaging of ourshampoo barsis 100% biodegradable.
Responsible
The third and final characteristic of a natural shampoo is that its ingredients are sourced responsibly. This means that both people and nature are taken into account during the extraction of the ingredients.
Do natural shampoos contain chemicals?
A natural shampoo does not contain chemicals such assulfates,siliconesandparabens. These chemicals are often replaced by natural ingredients with (approximately) the same functions.
Currently, our shampoo bars are 98% natural. We aim for 100% natural ingredients. We are constantly trying and researching a unique formula that is 100% natural. This, of course, takes time.
Does natural shampoo work well for every hair type?
Our natural shampoos work great for different hair types. Since each hair type needs something different, we have created a page for each type. This way, you only see the shampoo bars suitable for your hair!
However, there is a small exception to the rule. For extremely damaged hair, it may be difficult to repair it with natural shampoo. The ingredients of a natural shampoo are simply not suitable for this. Through modifications and synthetic ingredients, extremely damaged hair can recover better.
Is natural shampoo better for people with a dry & sensitive scalp?
At Shampoo Bars, we often hear that people suffer from unpleasant (allergic) reactions to sulfates, silicones, and parabens, which lead to a dry and sensitive scalp. In such cases, a natural shampoo is definitely better for your scalp. Because natural shampoo only uses natural ingredients, your scalp does not come into contact with substances like sulfates, silicones, and parabens.
