Sustainable showering

Sustainable living is totally in! Do you not necessarily want to renovate your entire house to an 'A-label house' but still live more sustainably? You can! You can start with sustainable showering. Right in your unrenovated house. I did it and I'm converted. I seriously shower "consciously" every day. I have collected some tips for you on how to shower sustainably and I can tell you: it's not bad at all!

Tips for sustainable showering

First of all: shower for 5 minutes! I never thought I could manage this, but with a little time management, it works! Including washing my hair... initially, I used a timer, and now my shower routine is simply ingrained in my system, and I genuinely don't take longer than 5 minutes! Just stay in bed a little longer, and then I take a power shower! I must say, this works great. After a few minutes, you're completely refreshed and ready to start a new day. Add some music (a maximum of 2 songs is also about 5 minutes), and then I'm ready. A special sustainable showerhead for water saving is also a great solution!

Another way to take sustainable steps is by using sustainable personal care products specifically for the bathroom. And by that, I mean plastic-free and natural products. Think of natural shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel in bar form and without a plastic bottle! What a solution. I'll explain below exactly how that works.

Washing your hair sustainably with a Shampoo Bar

A Shampoo Bar (also known as hair soap) is essentially the same as a regular shampoo, but the sustainable version. The only difference is that regular shampoo consists of approximately 80% water, making it liquid and often packaged in a plastic shampoo bottle. A Shampoo Bar is shampoo in solid form, which requires minimal packaging material, thus saving a lot of plastic. Shampoo Bars are packaged in a biodegradable paper wrap. Because a Shampoo Bar contains no liquid, it is the ideal travel companion and you can simply take it in your hand luggage. You can store it in a special tin and let it dry in your shower in a special bag or on a Bamboo soap dish. With one Shampoo Bar, you save approximately 3 plastic shampoo bottles. In addition, Shampoo Bars are also more natural. Better for your hair and the environment. There is a Shampoo Bar for every hair type, and because the price won't be an issue, this small step is affordable and achievable and contributes to a sustainable shower experience.

Plastic-free Conditioner Bars

We often use conditioner because we use many harsh products to clean our hair, which causes our hair to lack nourishment. With conditioner, we add nourishment to the hair. Shampoo Bars are made with nourishing oils, so it's often not necessary to use a conditioner in addition to a Shampoo Bar. Is your hair very dry, frizzy, and/or damaged? Then your hair might need extra care. You can provide this extra nourishment and care with our Conditioner Bars. A Conditioner Bar is essentially the same as a Shampoo Bar, but in the form of a conditioner. So, a Conditioner Bar is a solid conditioner, which means no plastic bottles are involved.

With one Conditioner Bar, you save approximately 3 plastic conditioner bottles. Additionally, they consist only of ingredients that provide extra nourishment and care to your hair, making it softer and less frizzy. They fit perfectly in a storage tin, and for conditioner bars, it's also important to let them dry properly on a suitable soap dish.

Body Bar: a sustainable replacement for shower gel

A Body Bar fits perfectly with sustainable showering. No plastic bottle of shower gel, combined with a wonderful scent and gentle effect for all skin types, makes it a top choice for the sustainable bathroom. It's wise to give your skin resilience and suppleness back with hydrating ingredients. When your skincare product also contains ingredients that promote the formation of collagen and elastin fibers, you can speak of an optimal maintenance product. Our body bars can help you keep your skin as healthy as possible. During your shower, rub your skin with a body bar and let it soak in for a while. Your skin will quickly feel clean and refreshed after a treatment.

Sustainable personal care products

In addition to these shower products, there are also sustainable accessories that can sustainably replace everyday items. Think of:

Washable Cotton Pads
While we love pandas very much, we are less fond of panda eyes. These reusable cotton pads are therefore an ideal sustainable alternative for removing your make-up. On average, each person uses about 1500 cotton pads per year, so by switching to these eco-friendly washable cotton pads, you save a lot of waste. You not only save the raw materials and water needed for cotton cultivation but also the plastic bags in which traditional cotton pads are packaged. This way, you are contributing to sustainability! You can easily store the cotton pads in the Bamboo Cotton Pad Holder.

Bamboo Cotton Swabs
Millions of plastic cotton swabs end up in the oceans every year. 'One small piece of disposable plastic can't hurt, can it?' is what many people think. But nothing could be further from the truth. Did you know that during 'beach cleanups,' the plastic cotton swab is one of the most frequently found items? The bamboo cotton swabs are 100% biodegradable and a good alternative to plastic cotton swabs. The cotton swabs are made from sustainable bamboo and organic cotton, making them harmless to the environment. The cotton is not bleached with chlorine but with hydrogen peroxide. One box contains 100 bamboo cotton swabs.
