Our partnership with WWF

Our oceans are vulnerable. WWF knows better than anyone the terrible consequences of the amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean due to humans. Because it takes so incredibly long for plastic waste to break down, especially underwater, it often ends up in the stomachs of marine animals. Scientists are pessimistic, predicting that in about 20 years, the ocean will contain more plastic than fish. That's why we've started a collaboration between ShampooBars.nl and WWF. Now, WWF has its own product line, through which you not only directly support WWF but also contribute to the fight against plastic soup.

Not only marine animals are in danger

But besides the serious consequences for marine animals, there is another problem that needs our attention. The ocean, with its microorganisms, is responsible for about 70% of the oxygen in the atmosphere. If we do nothing, we will certainly lose the battle against plastic soup. Fortunately, the ocean is resilient and can recover quickly, but we must give it the chance to do so. And every little bit helps to reduce your daily plastic consumption.

What WWF does

WWF, or the World Wide Fund (formerly known as the World Nature Fund), fights every day to create a better future for people, animals, and nature. They do this by connecting people who want to help, and by providing information and education. But the largest part of WWF's work consists of protecting nature worldwide. For example, they work to combat illegal deforestation with drones, protect the habitat of whales by collecting data from transmitters, and help convert Dutch polders back into flourishing and healthy natural areas.

Panda, Ocean, Desert and Jungle

These are the names of the four WWF x Shampoo Bars gift sets, each consisting of a Shampoo Bar and a Body Bar. The Panda set is, of course, black and white in color and has a delicious coconut scent. The Ocean set has a blue and white theme and a refreshing eucalyptus scent. The Desert Bars are brown in color with the soft scent of honey, and finally, there are the Jungle Bars with the scent of Tea Tree. Of course, all Shampoo Bars are handmade in the Netherlands in a sustainable way and with responsible ingredients. And besides being plastic-free, all bars are also Vegan, free of SLS and SLES, and also free of silicones and parabens. These gift sets cost €19.95 and are delivered in our well-known 100% natural and recyclable packaging. But in a unique WWF design to complete the look.

Why Shampoo Bars help in the fight against plastic soup

Perhaps you're wondering, what does a Shampoo Bar do for the preservation of the ocean and nature? Well, with just one Shampoo Bar, no less than three plastic shampoo bottles do not end up in the waste. Consider that 311 million tons of new plastic are produced annually, increasing by 8% each year, and that 91% of used plastic is not recycled. On average, you use 6 to 8 bottles of shampoo per year. If you always choose a private label, you pay an average of €2 per bottle. So, €12 to €16 for shampoo per year. Especially for women who prefer a brand-name shampoo with higher-quality ingredients, you can easily spend an average of €8 for a bottle of shampoo. That adds up to between €48 and €64 that you spend on shampoo alone per year. And all these bottles add to the plastic problem. If you think, oh, those few bottles, it's not that bad. Our small country consumes about 90 million shampoo bottles annually. If you use your shampoo bar normally (for example, only lathering your hair roots and not the length of your hair), two shampoo bars will last you about a year if you wash your hair 2 to 3 times a week. And 1 shampoo bar costs less than ten euros. And with the WWF shampoo bars, you also donate directly to the fight against plastic soup! A win-win situation! Good for your wallet, good for your hair, and good for nature!
